December 13, 2009 -
1)Thanks to all of you who were the leaders in this year's Danville-Alamo AAUW Holiday Home tour. You are not going to believe our totals!!! We have all really out done ourselves. We sold 648 tickets for our tour- 99 more than last year!! 433 were regular priced tickets and 215 were senior tickets. I believe that if we had not had two days of rain, our sales would have been out of this world. Income:
Ticket sales $ 18,735
Donation from Model A Cabinet Company Scott Carlson $ 250
Donation from Sharon Ritchey $ 50
Money from Quilt Raffle 530
Tentative income $ 19,565
Expenses are still coming in but it will be under $1000 with mailing and printing of 1600 postcards, food, postage, etc. All of our publicity was free. Tickets sales at East Bay Floral were 285 tickets- almost half of our total. We are truly appreciative of their selling our tickets at their wonderful store.
Kathie and I really appreciate all of the hours that you all worked to make this such a success. So many of our members contributed by being docents, making refreshments, buying tickets and being there when we asked for help.
Tena Gallagher and Kathie Hixon

Starting on January 8, you can submit your art and photography for this year's contest. Winning entries will be featured in a calendar that will be sent to members this summer and on new note cards available at ShopAAUW. Visit the AAUW website for more details.

4) Training for webmaster and server management will be given to whoever is interested. It is a bit of work and time consuming with 250 members so we would like to train several people at once. We now have one person signed up and dates are to be set after the holidays. If you are interested, please email rkrane@yahoo.com. This is a valuable talent that leads to paid positions so take advantage of it.
5) The weekly e-news is for AAUW events but also community events. If you want to have something posted send to rkrane@yahoo.com. If you object to a posting, just don't read it. Sometimes someone sends me something for a positing and it goes out without investigation. If you want to be an investigator and help, contact rkrane@yahoo.com. Some people have paid for ads and this helps us cover the costs of production, so please be understanding. This job takes time and effort.
6) We remind you to participate in as many AAUW activities as possible. You paid for membership so take advantage of it - meet new friends and have fun.
Happy Holidays to all of you. You will find the newsletter at http://www.aauw-da.org/Dec2009Advocate.pdf and it is attached and well done by Cheryl and Marge.(please note some updates in this calendar - not on newsletter.)
